Artist Reception at The Handmade Showroom

Do you recall a little bit ago we mentioned that we were one of the founding artists at The Handmade Showroom in Pacific Place?

A quick refresher, it's super great pop up shop that features many local artists' work in the heart of downtown Seattle. Every time we've been in there, we've been totally delighted to see the handmade displays and of course the amazing work available for sale.

This Thursday evening The Handmade Showroom is hosting an Artist Reception at the store

From their site:

We are excited to join the celebration of Fall fashion for ‪#‎StyleuPP‬ by Seattle Magazine happening at Pacific Place Seattle this week!

Visit us on Thursday evening for an exclusive reception to meet our artists, taste wares from our artisanal food vendors, view our collection of amazing handmade work, and get a head start on your holiday shopping lists!

Special on-site tastings with:
Delicately Sweet Confections - Salted Caramel Sauce
Sweet Caroline's Jams - limited edition artisan jams made with seasonal fruits
The Kitchen Imp - hand-blended organic spices and seasonings

In addition to all the fun we will have on hand, there will be a live fashion show happening at Pacific Place, so come early and join in on the fun of fashion!

The Showroom is located on the third floor next to the Nordstrom Skybridge.

All are welcome, so be sure to invite your friends to join in on the fun! We look forward to seeing you Thursday!

Hot and Fresh Out Da' Kitchen

..mama rollin' dat body got every man in here wishin'... Hey, when you have an ear worm you roll with it.

This weekend I fiddled around with ye olde website and gave it a bit of a facelift. It's been a little over a year since we started and back then I just tossed a little something - something together and called it good.

Our new BIGGER gallery page

Over the past year, we're worked on tons of various projects and prototypes. We have a lot more to share about our designs, work style and capabilities. We'll be showcasing a few things on our brand spanking new YouTube Channel. But a fresh new website was needed.

Our shop page is now categorized and our site is searchable! Yay for technology!!! (That I figured out!!!)

Go ahead and search us.

Let us know what you think! Or if you find any typos, I'm pretty much the typo queen of Washington State.

Follow us on YouTube

We're asked a lot of questions about our name, process, how does laser cutting work, what can we cut, what's our favorite beers, do we really have 6 kids, the list goes on. So we thought it would be great to create an outlet to answer those questions. Rather than cutting and pasting responses we thought it would be good to actually see us answer them.

Follow our YouTube channel to see all of our videos.

New stockist - The Museum of Flight

Although, we've been working many long hours for what feels like slow and steady building for our still infant business, we've managed to get a "dream" customer. When I lived in West Seattle, my son's class had a field trip to The Museum of Flight. He came home exhilarated from all the awesome things he saw and learned about. That went on for days and even now that he's a junior in high school he still mentions every once in a while.

When we were approached by the Museum of Flight to design a couple products for the museum's gift shop in addition to some of our original designs, it was a like scoring instant mom points with my son who is such a fan.

I already had a rocket ship chalkboard magnet in development as well as some constellation "ornaments".

Rocket ship mini chalkboard with magnets.

We designed it so a photo or drawing could appear in the rocket ship.

A photo the size of a standard small school issued photo.

They asked us to develop some additional chalkboard magnet designs, a helicopter and a plane.

These designs are currently only available at The Museum of Flight Store.

The designs are simple and themed of course, but it was still a complete honor to do this project and be asked to carry our original works too. As a Navy "brat" who grew up around a Naval Air Base here in Washington I love everything that The Museum of Flight offers and shares.

Sneak Peek

We are totally in the camp of stores not putting out a holiday's themed items way before the actual holiday. But in the retail game you are creating your items well ahead of time. Especially right before the end of the year. As a designer I get giddy about products that we develop months ahead of the their release time. Sometimes I share my original sketches or our Corel Draw work in progress shots on our Instagram. John and I have worked on this product for months. It will be our first kit product!

Coming Soon!

This is just a teaser of what is to come. We'll be launching it in October. But I have had the most fun with project!

"What happened to Bigfoot."

Can you tell? John had to reign me and my imagination in a little bit on this. John is not only my partner in life and in business but also my voice of reason for my creative process.

Many of our buyers have asked us for kits. There are so many kits out there for various things, I wanted to make sure ours was something easy to do and fun.

I hope I'm making you curious.

Coming Soon From Our Friends At Bread And Badger!

As I've mentioned before, one of the best side effects of being in the laser cutting business is doing work for friends! We're so excited to share a couple projects that we recently did for our friends at Bread and Badger!!!

Bread and Badger - Ornaments & Pendants

Bread and Badger's sandblasted mugs, glassware, jewelry and gifts - feature some really fun designs. Probably most notable is their "I like it here" state(s) design. I actually bought John a Washington State "I like it here" travel mug. He drove up from Oregon every weekend for a few months before we got engaged. As a couple, John and I have a shared love for their work. Also, the family behind the company are some pretty cool people.

They've also been a part of the PNW maker scene for quite sometime. I've often vended at the same shows with them with my other business. Their brand is very familiar to me and my friends. I know at least 3 people with the narwhal glass. Because everyone needs a narwhal glass! I considered it a complete honor when Bread and Badger asked us to manufacture a couple new products for them! Pendants, ornaments and magnets! Featuring many of the their most popular designs.

We laser cut and engraved their designs into this beautiful lightweight (fantastic smelling) USA alder wood. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for their launch on their site. Also this is a great opportunity for me to remind everyone that while we can do engraving on glassware, we prefer not to. It's just not our area of expertise. We recommend Bread and Badger for your custom drink ware needs. They are top notch.

It's Friday (unce, unce, unce!)

I hope you all got the pronunciation of "unce" right. Our eldest texts that a lot when she does something awesome, like make a midterm her bitch. Kids are the worst. (And the best.)

It's Friday which means it's #BeerMeFriday on Instagram. John and I have committed for the near foreseeable future that we will post a picture of a new beer that we're trying out every Friday. We know it's rough, but we're willing to do it for absolutely no reason. Well, at least up until my jeans quit fitting. John might continue for quite some time.

I hope you all have a great Friday. I hope you all just got paid too, so you can appreciate this ear worm:

*Full Disclosure* John has never heard this song, this is all my doing. But go on now, and get on down now.

Seattle locals, don't forget to come out the International District's Night Market tomorrow night! We'll be sharing a booth with our goods friends Momo Seattle! 6pm to Midnight.

Have a great weekend!

Wild Winds

It's been a weird year for weather here in the PNW. Yesterday was no exception.

Branches on our path to the post office yesterday. Our power was out until 3:00am.

With out power, we tooled around the garden, made clam chowder (we have a gas stove) and played board games well into the night. Anyone ever play Scotland Yard? It's a fun one that my kids (yes, the teenagers) have been enjoying.

Our garden harvest. We have MEGA zucchinis!

Do you have a favorite game or activity to do when the power is out? I know not many people grew up with that inconvenience, but I grew up on an island here in Washington and there were a few times of the year that you'd expect to be without power for a bit due to poor weather.

If you endured the weather here locally, we hope that you didn't have any critical hits to your homes, cars or yourself.

Hello My Name Is...

Hi friends! I had to take another mini break from posting updates. We've been making items like the dickens to fulfill wholesale orders that we received at the Seattle Gift Show! We will proudly share the names of our newest stockists as soon as our shipments head out to them. The Seattle Gift Show was our first tradeshow experience. We went in "green" not knowing what to expect and it turned out to be a fun event. We had great neighbors that we're calling friends now and made some great local connections. It was great being commended for just being a local company!

In other news; I know I've been promising this one for a bit... and starting today you can pick up your very own Hello My Name Is - name tags!

Let everyone know when you walk into a meeting that you are Awesome or Trouble! Readymade available names are: Awesome, Bigfoot, Trouble and my personal favorite , Yo Mama. You can even customize one with your real name or whatever you'd like. But be warned you'll want to smell the name tag. That's right, smell it! Because laser cut wood smells awesome.

That's all I got for today!

Seattle Gift Show

Starts tomorrow! We have a booth that is in the Made in America section (booth #1532). We're green, excited and I'm personally hoping that I got all of our items listed on our line sheet.

This is the first "big" trade show that we've done. AND we're doing it with about a year of being in business under our belt. No time like the present right?

We're not used to working 9 to 5 hours on a typical day. So it will be nice to have shorter work days for a little bit. :D

We hope everyone in the Seattle area enjoyed the rain today!

Time Has Been Flying By

Well, I've dozed off on blogging again. We've been blessed with busy and fun filled days as of late. Let's back up back to Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco.

6 by 6 Arts takes on Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco Summer 2015

IT. WAS. AWESOME.

6 by 6 Arts takes on Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco Summer 2015

Thanks so much to all who came out and visited us! We had such a great time and hope to return to San Francisco for future shows.

After we made it home we immediately fulfilled some standing wholesale orders. One of which is with a super cute little shop in North Bend, WA called Selah Gifts. Just a block away from Twede's Cafe. Also known as the "Double R Diner".

We also squeezed in a few family days since the kids are still on summer break and we managed to coordinate schedules with John's family and our six kids for a little family trip.

Today we are preparing for a trade show this weekend as well as working on some custom items that I can't wait to share! More soon!

Off to unpack our bags and hope everything made it down with us in one piece. Friends in the San Francisco area, we're looking forward to seeing you!!!! All the details about the show this weekend is available by clicking through this link

Signs of Home

Last week was my 20 year high school reunion (fun fact: I'm older than John). While I was unable to attend the actual reunion but we did need to do some errands on the island. Even though I've been a mainlander for some time now, I still get a longing to see the sights and hear the sounds of home.

Old drive in sign with two remaining marquee letters hanging on.

The Shrimp Shack - on the roadside of the North Cascades Highway on Fidalgo Island never disappoints. That's a 1/2lb of fresh calamari in that basket.

North Cascades Highway leads to my hometown.

Lots of inspiration comes from just being in that area. I've been been much of a city girl so the slightly slower pace suits me.

Since our company's inception, we've created quite a few prototypes with elements of inspiration from my home. One of the most striking things in my hometown is the Deception Pass Bridge. Which is currently getting resurfaced, my condolences to those who need to drive off the island in the evenings.

The best view of the bridge is from below it in a boat. I won't bother posting a picture of it since there are so many better ones online compared to the ones I have here on my hard drive.

The bridge's design is angular and impressive. A prototype that we are continuing to develop is a shelf/stand kit using the bridge's structural design as the inspiration.

Deception Pass Bridge - Laser Cut Shelf Kit Prototype

I've been using one of the small prototype as a candle/jewelry/phone holder.

We're fine tuning the designs but will have some kits in time for the holidays.

I did stop by my old high school since I was there. (Don't worry I keep up with many life long friends on a regular basis. Some friends I've had since I was 5 years old.) I was a bad kid in high school and like the other bad kids, I smoked across the street from the school. I figured that would be a good place to have my picture taken for reunion's sake. Also, I quit smoking years ago.

Beer Me, Booze Me, Wine Me!

That's right, we've created "The Holy Trinity"! It started with Beer Me:

And we've added Booze Me:

And by popular demand, Wine Me:

Why do we call it The Holy Trinity? Well, I'm sure we're not the only ones who've spent some time "praying to the porcelain god".

I have personally been known to say all three of these at any given time. It's just so effective when someone is walking to the kitchen/fridge/refreshment area. Beer Me! Booze Me! WINE ME! Hey, you can't get what you want unless you ask for it right?

State your preference in your home or a special event with one, two or all three of the this trinity. Speaking of trinity, we have a little coupon code if you want to own all three.

Enter coupon code (TheTrinity) from now until Thursday July 17th, 2015 and save $5.00 off of $45.00 purchases!

So what's your preference? We did consider Coffee Me, but let's face it, no one is in the mood to talk until the first cup of coffee is finished. Its just an unspoken understanding.

Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco California

In just a little over a week 6 by 6 is hitting the road to San Francisco! We will be vending at the Renegade Craft Fair San Francisco edition July 18 & 19.

2015-SF-summer-eflyer1.jpg

We will be at booth #232B in the Herbst Pavilion! Will have our classics (BeerMe, We Hate Everything Together) and much more! Including the West Coast in chalkboard magnet form!

That's right! We've completed the continental West Coast of the United States by adding California to the mix! And true to our style they were designed to fit together.

We will have loads of the Golden State on hand at Renegade in San Francisco. Unable to come to the show to grab one for yourself? Not a problem, I've just posted them in our shop.

We're excited to hit the road and have an adventure!
